Gift It: Sister/Bestie
And the gift ideas keep on coming! Today we've got our Customer Service Champion, Elise, sharing some seriously good suggestions for what you should give your sister this holiday season, whether she's, ya know, your actual sister or a bestie that feels like a sister. Take it away, Elise!
When I think back to all the laughs, achievements and ugly tears over the past year, there is one consistent thread: my best friend. That’s why this holiday season I want to show her how much I appreciate her - especially for the time that she sent me the link to Adele’s new single before I knew it dropped.
Framed Photo: My absolute best friends and I take a trip to Florida together every Memorial Day weekend. Over the years we have had dance parties to celebrate birthdays, opened acceptance letters to grad schools, worked through quarter-life crises and, most recently, celebrated engagements! We look forward to this weekend every year and I can't wait to frame one of my favorite pictures from our last trip, with my best friend in our happy place.
Or even better... a commissioned paper cut portrait: Because we both already have our favorite photo as our profile pic, I thought I could also turn it into a tangible work of art that she can enjoy for years to come. So, I'm commissioning a paper cut portrait like this one from Kathryn Zaremba, based on a favorite photo of the two of us.
New and old Photo with two mat openings: My BFF and I have grown up together, so I immediately thought to design a frame with multiple mat openings to really illustrate how much has changed over the years. I would not be the same person today without her - like really, I would probably still be wearing halter tops without her forcing me to give all of those away (thanks, girl!). I had so much fun going through old photos for this project! Another great idea would be to frame a current photo with a letter you sent her from camp as a kid - boy is that drama still good!
Swatch Watch: There are few things that my best friend and I enjoy more than a good #TBT, so why not translate that into a gift this holiday season? Our parents’ homes are crawling with nostalgic items that we're not quite ready to let go of, so let's give them a second life this year! The fun doesn’t have to stop at this amazing neon watch, you can also frame one of your charm bracelets that you spent hours making for each other, the first CD you ever burned for her, or the beloved “Marry me Seth Cohen” poster you had hanging her your locker.
Typography Print: If you’re anything like me and my best friend, we love cuddling up on the couch in our PJs, ordering a spread from Grubhub and polishing off a season of our favorite show on Hulu. That's why this print is so perfect! I could also easily make a gallery wall for her featuring a "What Would Beyoncé Do?" poster paired with any paper product from Pink Olive. (Probably the bagel poster with “You’re My Everything”… because carbs.)
So now you can go confidently into the holiday season knowing your gifts are worthy of your BFF or your sister (because, after all, is there really a difference?).
