Waiting for the perfect wave in Nantucket
“I grew up loving to take pictures, but never really took it super seriously. My husband surfs, so I would spend hours on the beach taking photos while he was surfing.
For our first anniversary he got me a really nice camera, and from there it just sort of took off.
This photo was taken in September. If I had to say I had a favorite time of the year in Nantucket it would be September and October. The weather is perfect and the sunsets are out of control. Normally the surf is really good because it’s hurricane season, but on the day this photo was taken it was totally flat. The waves that were coming in were gorgeous—kinda crystal, smooth, but very tiny.
All of the surfers wanted to be in the water. They were all sitting there wishing, hoping, and conjuring up a wave. They were all so perfectly still waiting for a wave.
The reception that I got from this photo made me realize I need to start selling my work. I love how Nantucket reinforces the beauty in simplicity. Whether it’s your surroundings or the lifestyle you can find here.”
